On 8 October, Inga Elksne (Širina) will defend her doctoral thesis “Early eating habits in infants and their association with iron metabolism” at an open meeting of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Clinical Medicine Degree Committee (Riga, 16 Dzirciema Iela, Hippocrates Auditorium).
On 15 September the Latvian Ministry of Health reduced the period of self-isolation for anyone arriving or returning to Latvia from 14 to 10 days. Please note that self-isolation will now also be necessary for travellers returning from Estonia.

On 2 September the first Research Breakfast of this academic year was held at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), where researchers, students and other interested parties were able to participate on-site in the Senate Hall, or remotely via Zoom. There are only a handful of experts in Latvia who have excellent command of Chinese and an in-depth knowledge of the culture and politics of the thousand-year-old country. One of them is Una Bērziņa-Čerenkova who is the Head of the China Studies Centre at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), Head of the New Silk Road Programme of the Latvian Institute of International Affairs, a lecturer and a Fulbright Scholarship recipient.
Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) pre-courses for first-year students were organised remotely for the first time, and the popularity of the courses has grown.
On 3 September, students from the Department of International Business and Economics at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Faculty of European Studies, led by senior lecturer Ligita Landzmane, visited the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
On 31 August, the new 2020/21 academic year was opened with a solemn immatriculation ceremony for all first-year students. The ceremony was held in the backyard of Rīga Stradiņš University and in the adjacent Inspiration Park. At the traditional event, which could also be viewed live online, RSU management and faculty deans greeted the 2,754 new Latvian and international students.
The number of newly enrolled students at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has increased this year. On Monday 31 August, 2,754 new students began studying at RSU, including 401 international students, compared with 2,627 students last autumn.
