From 3 to 7 September the 46th Congress of the International Society for the History of Medicine (ISHM) was held in Lisbon. Professor Juris Salaks and Assistant Professor Ieva Lībiete from the RSU Institute of the History of Medicine were among the delegates at the congress, whereas RSU rector Professor Aigars Pētersons was invited as an honorary guest.
On 15 September RSU put out a call to papers for the RSU International Research Conference 2019 to be held from 1 to 3 April.

As part of their clinical studies, RSU Faculty of Dentistry students are offered the opportunity to take part in championships organised by dental product manufacturers, where students are given the opportunity to improve their professional skills in tooth restoration, gain experience in clinical work with new materials and win valuable awards.
In the first week of September, the RSU International Department (ID) invited colleagues to an informal meeting with international students over a cup of coffee. RSU employees had an opportunity to get to know more about international students and their experience at the university and in Latvia in general.
On Friday 21 September, T.R. Carr, Professor of Public Administration and Policy Analysis at Southern Illinois University will give a guest lecture titled Health policy implemented by the US President D.Trump administration: current issues to be held in the RSU Department of Public Health and Epidemiology at 9 Kronvalda bulvāris (Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology, Auditorium 1).
The professor has visited RSU previously and he represents the conservative world view that opposes the Obama healthcare plan.
The traditional Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Academic Meeting was held on 4 September, gathering more than 400 university employees. The meeting began with RSU rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons reviewing the accomplishments of the university in 2018 and reminded of the development paths to be taken in the future. The meeting concluded with the presentation of the RSU E-Awards and Annual Awards in several categories, and the employees enjoyed a musical performance.
On Tuesday 18 September, Associate Professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Lee Eric Rubin will give guest lectures in the conference hall of the Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopaedics.

Cooperation between industry and universities serves as a launching pad for innovations. You can see it for yourself in the large-scale food exposition "Riga Food 2018", which brings together business, science and consumers. This year, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) booth is located in the food industry innovator section. It displays not only the commercially viable ideas of the university nutritional scientists, but also the products co-developed by pharmaceutical chemists. These products incorporate the valuable properties of medicinal herbs.
The World Health Organization reports that 1.4 billion adults face health problems due to a lack of physical exercise. This applies to almost all office workers in Latvia, as working a sedentary job in an office for at least six hours, our body does not get enough blood circulation and other complications can arise, which in time can create irreversible health problems.
Rīga Stradiņš University mixed choir "Rīga"invites new members to tryouts.
Tryouts will be held on 6 and 13 September from 16:30 to 18:30 in the Senate Hall (Block K, second floor) in the RSU central building, 16 Dzirciema iela, Rīga.
Choir rehearsals are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:30 to 21:00.
The choir is led by conductors Evita Taranda un Zane Zilberte; choir master – Uģis Meņģelis.
