Aim

The aim of the study is to analyse the narrative of climate change mitigation in Latvia, how it is shaped and perceived by society, as well as to make proposals for improving a strategic narrative to promote climate-neutrality in Latvia, including achieving the goals set by the Paris Agreement.

Description

The study is based on the opinion that narratives play a role in promoting action (or inaction). Therefore research on climate change narratives and how they are perceived is essential and can contribute to achieving climate neutrality goals. The study analysed the contents of various media outlets in Latvia to find out how often and in what way the media covers climate change and related issues. The study also explored the attitudes of the Latvian population towards climate change and mitigation issues through a nationally representative sociological survey. The results of the study form the basis for a broader study on climate change narratives in Latvia at different levels - political, business, media, and societal (see Related Projects).
