Objective

The aim of this introductory course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge of the principles of relationship-building with clients/patients and their specificities in various counseling approaches; to develop an understanding of the importance of a safe counseling environment; and to cultivate and practice basic communication skills with clients/patients, as well as the use of therapeutic interventions, methods, and techniques in the context of psychological practice. This course does not provide comprehensive counseling training but serves as an introduction to the fundamental principles and techniques of counseling.

Prerequisites

Professional Practice and Ethics of a Psychologist I, Personality Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Clinical Psychology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Describes the differences between psychological counseling and psychotherapy, outlines the principles of building a counseling relationship with a client/patient, and compares their specifics in different counseling approaches. Describes and explains the stages of the individual counseling process, identifies therapeutic interventions, and describes the counseling environment.

Skills

1.Reflects on their own skills and experience, is able to provide feedback to peers on their skills, and expresses an empathetic attitude towards the client/patient (peer).

Competence

1.Apply the micro-skills of the consultation, according to the context of the situation, be able to establish a consultation relationship with the client/patient; enter into an agreement. Recognises the consulting skills used in their work and those of others.
