About Study Course
Objective
To emphasize the importance of immediate recognition, evaluation, care and disposition of pediatric patients in response to acute illness and injury in a prehospital and emergency department settings. Define and prioritize the pediatric patient’s problems accurately and generate an appropriate differential diagnosis for childhood conditions
Learning outcomes
1.Become familiar with the major pediatric diagnoses requiring hospital care and which promote the development of clinical problem‐ solving skills.
1.Investigate the injured child in accordance with the primary and secondary evaluation algorithms;
Provide a proper immobilisation to trauma patients according to the transport requirements
Collect, assemble and interpret relevant history and physical findings
• Assess and interpret abnormalities and findings on common diagnostic tests and studies including chest x-rays, EKGs, blood tests, and urinalysis. Demonstrate the role of patient observation in determining the nature of a child's illness and developmental stage
• Conduct a pediatric physical examination appropriate to the nature of the visit or complaint (complete vs. focused) and the age of the patient
1.• Provide emergency care to injuried child
List the most common preventable morbidities in childhood and describe strategies for prevention.
• Describe the components of a health supervision visit including health promotion and disease and injury prevention, the appropriate use of screening tools, and immunizations for newborns, infants, toddlers, school aged children, and adolescents.
