About Study Course
Objective
To acquire knowledge about:
- criteria for the definition of cases of infectious diseases;
- for the purposes and tasks of epidemiological intelligence;
- early warning and quick response systems in Latvia and Europe;
- healthcare-associated infections, antibiotic resistance monitoring system;
- epidemiological monitoring of immunisation programmes and vaccine-regulated infectious diseases;
- the system of public health protection measures in Latvia and the world, with levels and grades of threats.
Learning outcomes
1.During the time allotted for the study course, the medical resident acquires knowledge about:
- criteria for the definition of cases of infectious diseases;
- for the purposes and tasks of epidemiological intelligence;
- early warning and quick response systems in Latvia and Europe;
- healthcare-associated infections, antibiotic resistance monitoring system;
- epidemiological monitoring of immunisation programmes and vaccine-regulated infectious diseases;
- the system of public health protection measures in Latvia and the world, with levels and grades of threats.
1.As a result of completing the study course, the medical resident will be able to solve issues in a team and independently and do the following:
- to perform epidemiological investigation of disease cases/outbreaks, using all epidemiological investigation methods;
- to calculate immunisation indicators, evaluate the effectiveness of vaccination;
- to monitor the incidence of infectious diseases, the circulation of agents;
- to organise anti-epidemic and prevention measures;
- to manage emergency public health situations.
1.As a result of completing the study course, the medical resident will achieve competence and will be able to do the following independently:
- to perform epidemiological intelligence;
- to carry out operations in the context of the early warning and rapid response system;
- to conduct an epidemiological investigation related to healthcare-associated infections, organise antibiotic resistance monitoring;
- to implement the immunisation programme and epidemiological monitoring of vaccine-regulated infectious diseases;
- to organise public health protection measures, according to the degrees and levels of threats.
