Objective

To ensure, in accordance with the requirements of the homoeopathy specialty regulations, the acquisition and development of theoretical knowledge of the philosophical concepts and principles set out in the Organon of Medicine, enabling the physician to apply them both to medicine in general and to homoeopathy for the restoration of health.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.During the time allotted for the study course, the medical resident:
• gains knowledge about the life, research and experiments of Dr S. Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy;
• gains an understanding of the holistic view of human nature in homoeopathy;
• gains an understanding of the nature of health and illness in homoeopathy;
• acquires knowledge of philosophy and logic, learns to apply these concepts and principles in practice, developing homoeopathic thinking;
• gains a clear understanding that homoeopathic philosophy is the application of general philosophy to homoeopathy;
• gains an understanding of the holistic perception and individuality of the patient as a basis for dealing with health problems;
• understands the role and place of homoeopathy in integrative medicine.

Skills

1.As a result of completing the study course, the medical resident:
• demonstrates an understanding of the principles and concepts of homoeopathy;
• demonstrates an understanding of health and illness in the context of homoeopathy;
• is able to analyse and apply the principles and methods of homoeopathy in the treatment of patients;
• is able to select relevant information to solve professional problems;
• demonstrates communicative and integrative skills;
• demonstrates self-motivation, self-confidence and initiative;
• demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and understanding of medicine in general.

Competence

1.Upon successful completion of the study course, the medical resident achieves the competence of a homoeopath;
• understanding of critical theoretical homoeopathic concepts for further use in clinical practice;
• is able to understand what exactly is treatable in a person;
• demonstrates a holistic approach towards the patient;
• is able to understand the purpose of therapy;
• to be able to observe the patient without bias, objectively, assess the situation and think critically in each case of illness;
• to be able to work in a health care setting, following the principles of health care and the philosophy of homoeopathy.
