Objective

The aim of the course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and understanding of the human musculoskeletal diseases, and congenital and acquired deformities, injuries, their pathogenesis, causes, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation principles, care for the person, family and the society and skills that will allow students to independently give first aid, to diagnose musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses, to be well aware of treatment and rehabilitation principles and to continue studies at a higher level after studies.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the human normal anatomy, physiology, aseptic and antiseptic, desmurgy, propaedeutics.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

On completion of studies in orthopaedics the student will be able to:
• recognise and describe bones, types of common joint and soft tissue diseases and injuries, causes and ethiopathogenesis;
• explain and justify main principles of treatment;
• explain side effects;
• estimate prognosis.

Skills

On completion of studies in orthopaedics the student will be able to:
• collect a patient’s anamnesis;
• perform examination;
• establish a diagnosis;
• prepare additional examination and treatment plan;
• perform transport immobilization.

Competence

On finishing studies in the course the student will be able to work independently with the injured and orthopaedic patients in physiotherapy practice, and will be able to continue their further education.
