Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the requirements of the speciality regulation to prepare for certification in paediatric dentist’s speciality according to laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia. To provide evidence-based training in pathology of dental diseases in children, microbiology and endodontics, integrating the field of specialty with other branches of dentistry and medicine.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Describes the development of caries in deciduous and permanent teeth. Defines the types of traumatic dental damage and the diagnostic and treatment options. Describes multidisciplinary treatment options for traumatic dental damage. Names endodontic treatment diagnosis, techniques and prognosis of an endodontically treated tooth.

Skills

1.Knows how to draw up a treatment plan in paediatric dentistry and how to follow it clinically. Knows how to use evidence-based methods in the selection of treatments. Knows how to endodontically treat new permanent teeth with unformed root growth.

Competence

1.To be competent to work in dental establishments, according to the profile of one’s specialty. To apply evidence-based methods in the planning and implementation of oral cavity treatment for children, in line with the latest clinical study results. To be competent in multidisciplinary planning and treatment of children with traumatic dental damage.
