Polytrauma (RIR_015)
About Study Course
Objective
To ensure acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in radiological diagnosis of polytrauma patients and application of minimally invasive endovascular and percutaneous methods.
Learning outcomes
1.On successful course completion, residents are familiar with the indications and contraindications of vascular trauma treatment (emolization, stenting), complications, basic principles of embolization agent selection, the role of stents in the treatment of vascular traumatic lesions, traumatic liver, spleen and kidney trauma, splenectomy complications. Residents will know the importance of diagnostic laparotomy and non-surgical treatment in patients with traumatic liver injury, will understand the importance of the gradation system for the severity of traumatic organ damage.
Pelvic injury:
• Residents will be aware of the limitations of diagnostic laparotomy in the diagnosis of pelvic hemorrhage.
• Understand the most commonly affected blood vessels at specific pelvic fractures
• Understand the role of diagnostic arteriography and arterial embolization in hemodynamically stable and unstable patients.
• Select the optimal arteriography time for patients with multiple pelvic fractures who may require diagnostic laparotomy or external fixation.
• Knows various treatment strategies for pelvic bleeding, possible complications of embolization.
Limb trauma:
• Knows the clinical and radiological (angiography, CTA, dopplerography, MRI) picture of limb artery injury, as well as knows the collateral arteries, their role after embolization of the injured artery.
Face and neck injury:
• Indications and contraindications for transcatheter embolization in case of facial and neck vascular injuries.
• To identify collaterals between intra- and extracranial circulation, to evaluate the possibilities of embolization.
1.During the course, residents will learn to insert aortic occlusion balloons in patients with severe hemorrhage without the aid of imaging, will be able to perform selective catheterization of blood vessels, incl. using microcatheters, guidewires, perform stent, stent-prosthesis implantation in patients with vascular trauma, treatment of endovascular complications, choose the most suitable embolization agent.
1.On successful course completion residents will be able to use the acquired knowledge and practical skills in treating vascular trauma, will be aware of the possible complications and will be able to diagnose and treat them.
