Resuscitation and Intensive Care in Pediatrics I (RNM_038)
About Study Course
Objective
To provide an opportunity to learn about the differences in the principles, methods and manipulations of intensive care in pediatrics to maintain (ensure) the vital functions of a critically ill infant and child at the stage of the pre-hospital and hospital admission department until the arrival of a specialist.
Learning outcomes
1.Student will know how:
• To recognize the symptoms and syndromes dangerous for life in disease and trauma cases in pediatrics.
• To explain the differences of intense therapy in pediatrics.
• To interpret clinically – biochemical hypoxia indices, their correction methods.
• To describe the differences of artificial pulmonary ventilation in pediatrics.
• To characterize the principles of antibacterial therapy.
1.The student will be able to:
• identify life-threatening symptoms and syndromes in cases of illness and injury.
• formulate indications and contraindications for patient hospitalization in the intensive care unit.
• develop a care plan in intensive care in pediatrics.
• analyze and correct clinical-biochemical indicators of hypoxia.
• examine and monitor intensive care patients in pediatrics using non-invasive and, where possible, invasive methods.
• catheterize central and peripheral veins.
• use perfusors.
• apply non-invasive and invasive artificial lung ventilation methods in pediatrics, using breathing bags and PMV devices, incl. portable.
• interpret laboratory examination data.
• apply O2 inhalation methods.
• take care of the child's respiratory tract, incl. in patients with a tracheostomy.
• interpret water-electrolyte and acid-alkaline balance disorders and make corrections.
• diagnose multiple organ failure and septic conditions.
• apply resuscitation measures according to ACLS algorithms.
• draw up a treatment and examination plan in pediatrics for IT patients with neurological and neurosurgical pathology, abdominal pathology and lung pathology, including operated patients, patients with endocrine pathology, cardiac pathology.
1.Student will be able to make and realize independently the examination and treatment plan in the conditions crucial for children’s health and life and maintain the child’s vital functions till the moment of specialist’s arrival in emergency situations in prehospital and hospital phase.
