Objective

To provide the medical residents of the specialty in dermatology, venereology with training in surgical diagnostic and treatment methods of skin and sexually transmitted diseases, in ability to diagnose acute conditions in surgery and in establishing differential diagnosis of dermatovenereological and surgical diseases.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Demonstrates the acquisition and development of in-depth understanding for the following topics:
1) History of surgery. Organisation of work in the operating theatre and bandaging room. Surgical investigation of a patient. Deontology in surgery. Scheme of a medical case history in surgery. Laboratory and x-ray examination methods. Instrumental methods of examination. Ultrasound and other cutting-edge investigative techniques.
2) Asepsis and antisepsis.
3) Local and general anaesthesia.
4) Furuncle, furunculosis, carbuncle.
5) Mastitis, phlegmon and shingles.
6) Shingles.
7) Hidradenitis and abscess.
8) Lymphangitis, lymphadenitis, phlebitis and thrombophlebitis.
9) Purulent bursitis, osteomyelitis and arthritis. Anaerobic infection.
10) Acute gastrointestinal diseases.
11) Surgical limb vascular diseases.
12) Rectal diseases.
13) Hernias and other abdominal wall diseases.
14) Soft tissue disorders in limbs.

Skills

1.Primary wound care. Incision and removal of a foreign body from the subcutaneous tissue or mucosa. Primary care of a non-healing wound. Necrectomy in burns. Removal of parasites from tissues. Primary care of burn injuries.
Skin, subcutaneous tissue, bone, one or more lymph node and muscle biopsy and punch biopsy. Furuncle, carbuncle, agnail, abscess and phlegmon superficial incision with drainage. Transplantation of the skin for covering a small skin defect. Naevus flammeus removal surgery. Local excision of benign tumours. Removal of a fingernail or a toenail with destruction of the nail matrix, surgical treatment of an ingrown toenail. Fingernail or toenail avulsion or trephination. Surgery of the palm phlegmon. Ganglion surgery.

Competence

1.After obtaining the certificate to be competent in working as a dermatologist and venereologist, to apply the knowledge acquired during the study process, to recognize and differentiate the skin and sexually transmitted diseases from other pathologies.
