Objective

To develop a comprehensive understanding of winter sports for students – cross-country skiing as well as the principles of camp organisation by learning their theoretical and practical aspects. Provide in-depth knowledge and professional skills in cross-country skiing modes, as well as in the efficient planning and management of winter activities for students of different ages and genders, promoting student motivation and involvement in winter activities.

Prerequisites

Students of the professional Bachelor’s programme need knowledge of human functioning, which gives students the opportunity to understand the movements to be made, the foundations of the ski sport and the didactic. Knowledge of English is required at a sufficient level to read the scientific literature of the sector and guide the terminology of the course in English.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Lists ski sports and cross-country ski movements, their main activities and names in Latvian and English.

Skills

1.Demonstrate the types of ski travel by being able to explain movement elements in Latvian and English languages and determine the efficiency of their application according to the terrain of the environment and climatic conditions.

Competence

1.Able to evaluate and use skiing as a means of promoting physical fitness and health by understanding the dynamics of physiological, psychological changes.
