Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
To start study course (or semester) all previous assessments according to Study plan (D1) should be successfully passed. Topographic anatomy and operative surgery in the oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral surgery, pathophysiology in general and special pathology, general surgery, diagnostic radiology, internal medicine with propaedeutics, pharmacology, emergency care.
Objective:
At the end of the course the student will have integrated knowledge of oral and maxillofacial surgery from previous study years, adding oncostomatology, orthognathic surgery, as well as will be able to perform small surgical operations and manipulations in dentistry, and will be able to continue postgraduate training in oral and maxillofacial surgery or a related specialty.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Individual theoretical preparing for each class, independent literature reading. Please fill in the course evaluation form at the end of the course.
Assessment Criteria:
• Active participation in practical works, qualitatively and timely written homework, quality of oral answers in all classes. • Theoretical and practical skills assessment in colloquiua. • At the end of the course Examination includes Maxillofacial Surgery (7th sem.), Children Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (8th sem), Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (9th sem). 1) oral answers to 3 theoretical questions (50%) 2) answers to questions about a described clinical case without prior preparation (30%) 3) X-ray image recognition and analysis (5%) 4) prescribing medication (specific medicinal product, dosage, method of administration) (5%) 5) evaluation of the clinical work performed during the semester, which is reflected in the "Student's diary in oral and maxillofacial surgery", discussion (10%).

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On successful completion of the study course, basic knowledge will be acquired and the student will be able to explain etiopathogenesis, clinical manifestation, diagnosis, principles and methods of treatment of oral and maxillofacial pathology, including pain control, emergency care, oral surgery, inflammatory diseases and injuries, tumours and orthognatic surgery, ethical and administrative principles, peculiarities of communication in the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Skills:As a result of the study programme acquisition, students will be able to identify pathology in the oral and maxillofacial region, if necessary, perform independent treatment or refer the patient to another specialist for appropriate procedures (pain and fear control, emergency care, extraction, intraoral incision, biopsy, minor dentoalveolar surgery), to communicate skillfully with the patient, his family members, as well as with other medical specialists.
Competencies:To be competent in the diagnosis of oral and maxillofacial diseases and injuries and the choice of treatment methods in ethical practice, subject to the relevant rules and restrictions, when prescribing treatment to a patient or referring to a specialist. The students will recognize the necessity for lifelong learning.
