Assessment
Unaided Work:
Theoretical studies using the electronic methodical study materials prepared by the teaching staff of the Department of Pathology; during the classes – practical work with a microscope and diagnostic tissue material.
Assessment Criteria:
During the study course, lecturers test knowledge using short test works (multiple-choice test or other short form of test as per lecturer’s instruction). Every semester, at the end of the course, students receive a semester pass for complete and successful attendance of classes, which also includes successfully passing regular tests in classes. In accordance with the RSU Academic Regulations (approved at the RSU Senate meeting of 21 April 2020; minutes No.2-1/4/2020), Paragraph 2.16, the final mark of the study course consists of the cumulative assessment (50%) and real knowledge obtained by the student (50%) in accordance with the result of the final course examination. The final exam consists of a multiple-choice test and 2 clinical tasks: diagnostic evaluation of micropreparations. The assessment of all test works, incl. in percentage and with grades, takes place in accordance with the current version of the Academic Regulations I of Rīga Stradiņš University.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:A deeper understanding of tumour pathogenesis and the most important molecular changes in tumours that serve as target structures for diagnosis, therapy and scientific research. In-depth knowledge of the practical morphological diagnosis of tumours, prerequisites, possibilities and limitations thereof.
Skills:Morphological and immunohistochemical diagnosis of tumours, principles and approach of obtaining biopsies depending on the location of the tumour and the affected organ, morphological examination of surgical material in case of tumours.
Competencies:As a result of the study course, the student will gain practical knowledge in determining and confirming the diagnosis of tumours according to the standards of good clinical practice, theoretical education that will be useful in working with scientific medical literature and independent planning of scientific research, as well as in further medical studies.
