The aim of the Data Security and Management Unit is to provide support to the university's departments in matters related to personal data protection and processing personal data in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), current regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia, and the university's internal laws and regulations.

Main tasks

  • To provide advice and organisational support to university staff in matters related to the protection and processing of personal data;
  • To maintain and upgrade the university's personal data protection system;
  • To coordinate security measures for the protection of personal data of RSU as controller and improve the processes for the protection of personal data;
  • To organise and supervise the work of RSU in the field of personal data protection.

Staff

Organises and implements activities in accordance with Article 39 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/EC.

Advises University staff, students, and data processors on matters related to security measures for the protection of personal data. Reports possible security incidents to the supervisory authority.
Conducts training for University staff and others on data security and protection issues.

Participates in drafting and implementing the personal data security strategy.

Provides advisory and organisational support in identifying, analysing, and implementing measures to mitigate and prevent risks to personal data protection.

Organises and supervises the University's work in the relevant areas of personal data protection in accordance with the requirements of the University's internal regulations.
