On 15 September, students, faculty members and other interested participants are invited to the presentation and discussion of the book British Statecraft and the Baltic Sea Region: A Documentary History with its authors from the University of Cambridge.
Prof. Brendan Simms, Professor in the History of International Relations at the University of Cambridge and Founder and Director of the Cambridge Centre for Geopolitics, will provide a historical perspective on Britain’s relations with the Baltic Sea region, presenting the book and its key insights.
Author
Brendan Simms is a Professor of the history of international relations in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge. He is the founder and Director of the Centre for Geopolitics and co-leader of the Baltic Geopolitics Programme. Prof. Simms works on European geopolitics, past and present, and his principal interests are the German Question, Britain and Europe, Hitler’s global antisemitism, humanitarian intervention and state construction.
The presentations will be followed by a discussion moderated by Evija Djatkovica.
This will be the only presentation of British Statecraft and the Baltic Sea Region in Latvia.

Participants
Charles Clarke, former Member of Parliament and UK government minister. He is currently Co-Lead of the Baltic Geopolitics Programme at the University of Cambridge. At the event, he will offer a contemporary British perspective on the Baltic region, focusing on the United Kingdom’s role in European and Baltic security.
Jānis Kažociņš, Distinguished Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Geopolitics and former National Security Adviser to the President of Latvia, will provide a Baltic perspective on cooperation between the Baltic states and the United Kingdom in the field of security.
The event is organised in cooperation with the Faculty of Social Sciences at Rīga Stradiņš University and the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Latvia.
Admission to the event is free of charge.
