Eline Skirnisdottir Vik is a Professor of Midwifery Science at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, where she works in the midwifery education programme. Her academic work includes teaching and research in areas such as midwifery practice, reproductive health, care during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period, as well as methodology, ethics, and the philosophy of science.
Her research focuses on pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care in the context of migration, unplanned births outside healthcare facilities, and on how to ensure high‑quality, interdisciplinary care for women in Norway and across Europe. She also studies user experiences related to care during the perinatal period. The professor is actively involved in research groups on reproductive health and health promotion from a life‑course perspective.
Her most recent publication is 'Trends in the quality of maternal and neonatal care in Sweden and Norway as compared to 12 WHO European countries' (2024), which analyses mothers’ experiences of care quality during the COVID‑19 pandemic.
