Across the Baltic Republics, efforts to promote green energy and climate action are encountering growing populist resistance. This backlash presents a major challenge for legislators, policymakers, practitioners, and private businesses seeking to sustain public trust and implement effective climate strategies.
In order to address this issue, the RSU’s Populist Encounters Research Group will bring together relevant academic experts with policymakers, deputies, NGOs, activists, and private sector representatives to exchange insights and formulate policy responses and engagement strategies. The workshop has two main objectives: first, to integrate diverse stakeholders at the earliest stages of research development to strengthen evidence-based research and policymaking; and second, to build a supportive regional network that enhances resilience to populist actors and improves the implementation of the green transition across the Baltic region.
The discussions will allow stakeholders to feed their most pressing needs into the research and policy agendas and become part of a sustainable regional network aimed at strengthening resilience to populist backlash, fostering cross-Baltic and wider exchange of experience, best practices, and knowledge exchange.
