On 25 September, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) invites families with children, young people, prospective students and everyone interested in science to attend European Researchers’ Night. This year, the event will take place at two locations: the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) and the RSU Red Cross Medical College.

Between 18:00 and 22:00, visitors will be able to explore medicine, healthcare, dentistry, pharmacy, sports science, technology and the work of researchers in an exciting and accessible way. The programme will include experiments, games, quizzes, practical workshops and laboratory tours, with opportunities to try skills used by RSU students and professionals in their everyday work.

Admission is free, and prizes will also be available in selected activities.

Researchers’ Night at the RSU METC

At the Medical Education Technology Centre, visitors will be able to step into the roles of healthcare professionals, researchers and other specialists. The extensive programme will feature more than 40 activities, workshops, games, demonstrations and information stands.

Apmeklētāji varēs:

  • explore the human body using virtual reality;
  • try laparoscopic surgery and airway intubation;
  • practise chest compressions and learn how to help someone who is choking;
  • stop severe bleeding and rescue a casualty in an immersive simulation;
  • test how thoroughly surgeons wash their hands and visit a simulated operating theatre;
  • learn about DNA extraction, caffeine metabolism and genetic research methods;
  • measure blood pressure and discover what can affect the accuracy of the result;
  • try filling a tooth using a training model;
  • test their reaction speed, attention, balance and physical strength;
  • use extended reality technology to train attention, movement coordination and breathing;
  • place 3D-printed organs correctly in a model of the human body and create a small 3D souvenir;
  • step into the role of a forensic expert and investigate fingerprints, microscopic particles and other traces;
  • take part in activities related to gynaecology, obstetrics, children’s health, nutrition and pharmacy;
  • solve a Library escape-room challenge and participate in business games;
  • meet RSU students and researchers, explore the study environment and learn more about study opportunities at RSU.

Researchers’ Night at the RSU Red Cross Medical College

At the Red Cross Medical College, visitors will be able to explore the healthcare study environment and discover science at every scale, from the human body to the smallest microorganisms.

Visitors will learn how microbes and bacteria affect the human body, become medicinal plant researchers and discover how these plants are used in pharmacology. They will also be able to explore human anatomy, from bones and muscles to the use of 3D technologies in medicine, find out about the science behind massage and practise first aid and lifesaving skills.

This year’s programme will also feature new activities, experiments and practical workshops for children, young people and adults.

Researchers’ Night is suitable for families with children, young people, prospective students and adults. Visitors will not only observe but also experiment, investigate, compete, ask questions and talk to RSU students, researchers and professionals.
