International Conference "Improving Patients Safety and Quality in Latvia"

An international conference "Improving Patients Safety and Quality in Latvia” is being organised by the National Health Service in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the representative office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Latvia with the support of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).  

The goal of the conference is to raise the awareness of healthcare professionals and health policy makers and to facilitate the development of patient safety culture in Latvia, strengthen efforts to improve patient safety by highlighting current achievements and sharing the examples of successful experience and good practice from other countries.

Experts from Latvia and other countries – Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway and the USA will give presentations on the subject matter.  

The conference will be held in four thematic sessions:

1st session. Patient safety culture with limited resources

The session will introduce participants to WHO Guidelines on Patient Safety at a regional and global level and address the main challenges and possibilities of improving patient safety culture in healthcare.

2nd session. Safety standards for invasive procedures: the role of the team and the individual

The session will introduce participants to the standards for invasive procedures, emphasising the role of the individual and the team and encourage the exchange of experience in the introduction of safety standards in healthcare institutions. 

3rd session. A multidisciplinary approach to sepsis prevention, early detection and treatment

The session aims to introduce participants to different roles, approaches and actions for sepsis prevention, early recognition and treatment. 

4th session. Good practice examples in the ensuring of patient safety and quality in hospitals 

This session aims to provide participants with good practice examples, creative and successful ideas that have been put into practice in different hospitals. 

AGendaTarget audience: medical professionals, policy makers, public organisations and other stakeholders. 

Conference participants will earn eight continuing education units. 

There is no participation fee for the conference. 

The conference is co-financed by the European Social Fund (project No. 9.2.3.0/15/I/001 (The elaboration and implementation of health network development guidelines and quality assurance system in the priority areas).

Simultaneous interpreting (Latvian – English – Latvian) will be provided at the conference.
