LaMSA - the Latvian Medical Students' Association
About the Latvian Medical Students' Association
The Latvian Medical Students’ Association (LaMSA) is a non-governmental organisation with public benefit status. It is led and run by students studying in Latvia who are future healthcare professionals – including those in medicine, dentistry, public health, rehabilitation, and related fields.
Founded in 2000, LaMSA has been a full member of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) since 2002.
The organisation was established to give students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with healthcare systems and policies in other countries, explore different medical fields, apply their theoretical knowledge through various projects, and gain valuable practical skills.
Our tasks
- Provide international exchange opportunities outside Latvia in collaboration with IFMSA.
- Offer year-round opportunities for students to participate in public health projects – including health and disease prevention days, awareness campaigns, and outreach visits to regional areas and schools.
- Support the development of students’ professional skills through practical medical training sessions and capacity-building opportunities in cooperation with IFMSA and Latvian experts.
- Share regular updates about events organised by IFMSA and the World Health Organization (WHO).
- Keep members informed about current developments in Latvia and around the world.
- Collaborate with other associations and organisations to organise projects, gain experience, and connect with future colleagues and peers.
- Provide opportunities for international visibility in collaboration with IFMSA – including the chance to publish in the journals Medical Students International and The European Sting.
- Encourage students to take on new challenges and pursue the implementation of their own ideas.
Main activities
Promote cooperation among medical students on both the local and international level as a full member organisation of IFMSA.
