The 7th edition of the annual international Neurology Winter School took place online on 3 February. More than 200 specialists from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital (PSCUH) Neurosurgery Clinic, the Riga East Clinical Hospital Gaiļezers Clinic, Sigulda Radiosurgery Centre, as well as Tõnu Rätsep, Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Tartu University Hospital, took part in the conference and discussed current issues in neurology and neurosurgery.

The conference was opened by Prof. Andrejs Millers, Head of the rSU Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Experts listened to the following presentations:

  • Haemorrhagic stroke in clinical practice
  • Indications for operative therapy of intracerebral haematomas
  • Current developments in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms
  • Deep brain stimulation therapy for movement disorders
  • Spinal cord stimulation for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain
  • Possibilities of radiosurgery in the treatment of functional disorders (trigeminal neuralgia, functional movement disorders)
  • Trigeminal neuralgia, surgical treatment options. Clinical case
  • Current developments in the diagnosis and treatment of moyamoya disease
  • Options for surgical treatment of moyamoya disease

For several years, the conferences organised by the school for neurologists have been able to provide high-quality continuing education for doctors. As usual, the conference was attended by leading specialists in the field and a wide range of doctors, including members of several professional associations. The Winter School conferences are organised by the teaching staff of the RSU Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery in collaboration with the RSU Centre for Continuing Education, the Latvian Society of Neurological Surgeons, and the Neurology Development Foundation.
