Faculty of Social Sciences Represented in The Baltic Geopolitics Network Activities in Cambridge
Last week, 13 and 14 April, the Faculty of Social Sciences of Rīga Stradiņš University was represented for the first time as a member in the events of The Baltic Geopolitics Network (BGN), an international cooperation network established by the University of Cambridge. The network brings together leading academic and research institutions from Europe and North America with significant expertise in political, social, and security processes in the Baltic Sea region.

Participation in the network marks an important step in expanding RSU’s international cooperation and strengthening the university’s research potential. During the event, groundwork was laid for academic and scientific collaboration, as well as for the development of joint projects with network members and with the University of Cambridge on a bilateral level.
RSU Faculty of Social Sciences leading researcher and Head of the doctoral study programme Social Sciences Una Aleksandra Bērziņa-Čerenkova, together with researcher Evija Djatkoviča, presented the university’s research directions in the fields of security and resilience. Particular emphasis was placed on expertise in topics such as Chinese and Russian information operations and hybrid threats, public willingness to defend the state, migration opportunities and risks resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the positioning of the Baltic states in Europe in the context of the war in Ukraine, and other related issues.
The RSU Faculty of Social Sciences expresses gratitude to the network’s leadership for the invitation to join BGN and participate in its activities, as well as for consistently keeping Baltic regional security issues on the European political and academic agenda.

During the visit, RSU representatives also took part in the Baltic Symposium “1945 in the Baltic and its legacies,” where they actively discussed the events of the Second World War in the Baltic region and their impact on the present day.
