Intersectional Gender Equality Working Group Fosters Inclusive Sexology at RSU
During the 2025/2026 academic year, the Intersectional Gender Equality Working Group, established within the framework of the INCLUDE project, carried out an active collaboration with the RSU Sexology Student Interest Group (pictured).

Within this framework, INCLUDE researcher and RSU lecturer Diāna Kiščenko served as a mentor, while researcher Jana Kukaine was invited as an expert and guest lecturer. This synergy provided the necessary theoretical foundation and practical support for the interdisciplinary study of sexuality, health, and society, integrating an intersectional perspective into the research interests of future specialists and promoting an understanding of the interplay between various social categories.
Throughout the year, in theoretical and practical sessions as well as educational events, topics of sexuality and sexology were addressed as an essential and multidimensional part of health and society. A comprehensive understanding of these issues was fostered through interdisciplinary dialogue, combining perspectives from medical, social, and human sciences. This approach allowed students to analyze these subjects not only from a medical standpoint but also through the lens of social factors, highlighting how sex, gender, age, ethnicity, and health status impact individuals’ experiences within the healthcare system and society at large.
These activities directly contribute to the broader goal of the INCLUDE project to improve gender equality and foster a diversity-based inclusive environment in biomedical research and higher education. The collaboration between the Sexology Interest Group and INCLUDE researchers clearly demonstrates that institutional change and the creation of a safe environment require a continuous interdisciplinary dialogue, while simultaneously making a practical contribution to the education of future specialists and public awareness.
