Medication apps, sports technology, and AI solutions: RSU students present their innovations
This month marked the conclusion of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) business incubator B-Space incubation programme, during which 13 student teams spent four months developing their business ideas, working with mentors and experts, developing prototypes, and improving their entrepreneurial skills. At the end of the programme, known as Demo Day, the teams presented solutions in the fields of health technology, sports, wellness, beauty, and construction.
A solution that makes it easier to understand medication instructions, a platform promoting the accessibility of equestrian sports in the regions, and a tool for self-discovery and more effective teamwork are just a few of the ideas developed by RSU students through the incubation and pre-incubation programmes.
Three teams receive grants to develop their ideas
After evaluating the teams’ presentations, the jury selected Medrix, TALLY, and Encanto Equestrian as the top three teams, awarding each a one-off grant of EUR 3,000 to further develop their ideas. The Medrix team is developing a digital solution that makes medication instructions more accessible to people with visual impairments, language barriers, and other challenges. TALLY, meanwhile, has created a mobile app that helps users track medication side effects, report them to the relevant authorities, and manage their medication history.
The third award-winning team, Encanto Equestrian, has developed an equestrian training platform that combines artificial intelligence solutions with remote consultations. The platform allows athletes to receive coaching support regardless of their location while analysing the movements of both rider and horse using 360-degree cameras and artificial intelligence.
RSU students participate in the international Green Hexagon programme
The closing event for the Green Hexagon international pre-incubation programme has also taken place, during which RSU students developed ideas together with participants from various universities in Latvia, Estonia, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. The programme focuses on sustainability, innovation, collaboration, and the development of entrepreneurial skills.
Psychtypes has been recognised as the most successful RSU team in the Green Hexagon programme. The team has developed a web platform that makes the scientifically grounded Big Five personality model more accessible to the general public through the use of easy-to-understand personality archetypes. The goal of the solution is to promote self-awareness, help people better understand their strengths, and improve collaboration within teams, as well as in educational and workplace environments.
Students' ideas turn into innovations
The achievements of the student teams demonstrate that innovation at the university takes place not only in laboratories and research projects, but also during the course of studies, as young people seek solutions to real societal needs. With the support of the B-Space business incubator, international programmes, and innovation grants, RSU continues to foster an environment in which students can develop entrepreneurial skills, test their ideas in practice, and take their first steps towards innovation and entrepreneurship.
