Prof. Angelika Krūmiņa of the RSU Faculty of Medicine, Department of Infectology, and Vice President of LĀB, remembers her colleague: ‘In our collaboration, Ilze was always thorough and innovative. At every meeting and session we attended together, she stood out for her attention to detail, deep engagement, fresh ideas, and openness to innovation. Her organisational skills were consistently excellent.

Ilze was also deeply loyal to Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), actively promoting cooperation between the Latvian Medical Association and the university. She held her alma mater in high regard, valuing its achievements in science, its role in educating new generations of physicians, and its contribution to organising international events.'

Dr. Aizsilniece will always be remembered as a physician with a strong vision, professional conviction, and deep care for her colleagues, students, and society.

Born in 1966, she graduated from the Latvian Medical Academy (now RSU), studied law at the University of Latvia, and received training in health system management in London. In 2016, she was honoured with the Latvian Medical Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr Aizsilniece was a doctor, a leader and an inspiration
