Professor Alexander Lerner from Israel shares expertise on limb trauma treatment at RSU
On 19 September, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Department of Orthopaedics hosted guest lectures by Prof. Alexander Lerner from the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine at Bar-Ilan University and the Orthopaedic Department of the Ziv Medical Centre on the primary surgical treatment of patients with severe limb injuries (orthopaedic damage control), as well as limb salvage surgery for patients with complex limb trauma (Orthopaedic damage control in severe trauma patients; Mangled extremity: limb salvage vs amputation).
In his lectures, Prof. Lerner emphasised that treatment protocols for patients with severe limb injuries, based on the principles of orthopaedic damage control, reduce the risk of serious complications and enable the preservation of limb functionality, even in cases involving extensive soft tissue damage and war-related injuries.
