RSU Academic Ball held in Olympian spirit
On Friday, 24 April, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Academic Ball was held at Hanzas perons in a festive and joyful atmosphere, bringing together RSU staff, alumni, students and invited guests.
The RSU Academic Ball is one of the university’s most cherished traditions, held since 2002 and symbolically marking the culmination of the academic year. This year, the ball was held in an Olympian spirit, honouring the values of art, science and truth, as reflected in the Academic Ball’s motto Ad honorem artes, scientia, veritas.
The formal part of the ball was opened by the RSU mixed choir Rīga with the student anthem Gaudeamus Igitur. Attendees were addressed by RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons, Latvian Minister of Health Hosam Abu Meri, and Chair of the RSU Council Juris Lācis, who congratulated the university community and highlighted its strength, the importance of tradition and its collective achievements.
The RSU mixed choir Rīga, Daumants Kalniņš with a selection of Frank Sinatra songs, and Eduards Rediko, winner of the Young Artist of the Year award at the 2025 Grand Music Awards, provided a musically rich start to the evening. At the conclusion of the festive programme, the choir, together with Eduards Rediko, performed songs by Raimonds Pauls, creating a particularly emotional and heartfelt atmosphere.
As is tradition, the ball began with a polonaise, after which the Jelgava Big Band, led by Raitis Ašmanis, together with vocalists Aija Vītoliņa and Daumants Kalniņš, invited guests onto the dance floor. Throughout the evening, guests also enjoyed performances by the Evita Sports and Ballroom Dance Studio, an acrobatic performance by Jekaterina Leikuma, a celebratory cake, a photo booth, interactive activities, as well as music in the Small Hall featuring the band Zuši and DJ Spinga.
The Academic Ball was a wonderful occasion for gathering and celebration, bringing together university traditions, the elegance of the academic environment, music, dance and the joy of being together. The organisers thank everyone who attended and helped create the special atmosphere of the evening.
