RSU advances development of new Study and Dentistry Centre: construction project submitted for building permit
Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) continues work on the development of a new Study and Dentistry Centre at its student campus in Dzirciems. A significant project milestone has been reached: on 21 May 2026, the minimum construction project (MBP) was submitted to the City Development Department of the Riga City Council to obtain a building permit.
At the same time, work continues on the development of the construction project in an expanded MBP version, and documentation is being prepared for the announcement of a tender for an expert review of the construction project.

Architectural solution
The planned development concept for the centre envisages a functionally integrated building complex, ensuring convenient connectivity with the existing infrastructure. The new building has been designed with a connection to the existing stairwell of Block A at 16 Dzirciema iela, while two galleries will provide links to the Institute of Stomatology.
This solution was chosen to preserve the unobstructed view from Dzirciema iela and to prevent the culturally and historically significant facade of Dzirciema iela 16 from being obscured by the new building or connecting galleries.

External works and landscaping
The project area will feature above-ground car parking spaces for guests and visitors, bicycle parking facilities, and shared micromobility zones, creating a modern and sustainable university environment.
The landscaping plan also includes underground waste containers, the relocation of the existing environmental art object Lielā vāze (Large Vase), as well as the preservation of the most significant trees, integrating them into a unified and high-quality outdoor space design.
The building's functionality
The building will have six above-ground floors and one underground floor. The underground level will accommodate employee parking and utility rooms, as well as a dual-purpose area that can be converted into a shelter for approximately 700 people in the event of an emergency.
The building’s first floor is primarily intended for university common-use functions, while also providing a separate area for dental technical facilities.
The third floor is intended for student learning and co-working activities, while the fourth and fifth floors are designed as student teaching clinic spaces for future dental specialists and hygienists. The sixth floor will accommodate lecture halls, simulation rooms, and other specialised training facilities.

Establishment of a paediatric dentistry centre
A paediatric dentistry clinic is planned for the second floor of the building. Establishment of the paediatric dentistry centre is being funded through co-financing from the Latvian state budget to improve the accessibility and quality of services for children and adolescents.
The state budget co-financing allocated for the implementation of the children’s dental clinic project is EUR 3,285,601.
