For RSU Employees
Traditional Events

On Wednesday 19 June Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted a traditional summer solstice event honouring those RSU employees whose name days fall on Latvian midsummer (23 and 24 June) - 25 women named Līga and 36 men named Jānis.

RSU Rector, Professor Aigars Pētersons, addressed employees praising their work over the previous academic year and encouraged them to start preparing for the weekend’s midsummer celebrations after such hard work.

The event brought together several hundred academic and administrative staff. Oak leaf wreaths were solemnly placed on the heads of all the men named Jānis, while women named Līga were presented with flower wreaths. Folk musicians Māsas Dimantas and soloist Lauris Valters stood for the entertainment and atmosphere. A wreath-binding workshop was also held during the day.

The summer solstice event is one of the most enduring traditions at RSU. This year it was held in the RSU Park of Inspiration at the RSU Central Study and Research Centre at 20 Dzirciema Iela.
