RSU expands translational medicine collaboration with two university hospitals
Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) continues to develop translational medicine capacity in Latvia and strengthen international research collaboration by signing two National Memoranda of Understanding on Participation in the EATRIS European Research Infrastructure Consortium (EATRIS-ERIC) with the Children’s Clinical University Hospital and Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital.

The signing of the memoranda
The memoranda were signed during the PMNET Forum, demonstrating the commitment of all involved institutions to jointly promote the development of translational medicine at national and international level. Participation in EATRIS-ERIC will enable the partners to develop research infrastructure, accelerate the development and implementation of new diagnostic and treatment methods in clinical practice, and enhance the competitiveness of Latvian science within the European Research Area.
Translational medicine serves as a bridge between fundamental scientific discoveries and practical medicine. The collaboration with leading university hospitals will strengthen our capacity to develop new diagnostic technologies and treatment solutions that directly improve patient care.
Agrita Kiopa, RSU Vice-Rector for Science
Under these Memoranda of Understanding, RSU, as the national EATRIS coordinator in Latvia, will ensure the flow of information between local and international partners and support the establishment of new infrastructure centres. The hospitals, in turn, commit to create specialised service blocks on various EATRIS platforms, ranging from innovative therapies and biological medical products to the development of biomarkers, imaging & tracing technologies, and vaccines.
Participation in the EATRIS-ERIC Consortium provides Latvian research institutions and medical centres with the opportunity to become part of a broad research ecosystem, collaborate with leading European translational medicine centres, engage in international projects, as well as attract additional funding for the development of science and innovation.
