RSU to host first international conference on global security threats
On 19 September, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will host the first international scientific and practical conference Modern Security Challenges and Strategies for Their Prevention – Towards a Secure Society. The conference is organised by researchers from the RSU Faculty of Social Sciences and will bring together scientists, industry experts, policymakers, law enforcement officials, state and local government officials, as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations from Latvia and around the world to discuss contemporary security challenges.
Global and regional security
The current global and regional security situation in Europe, including the Baltic region, is becoming increasingly complex and unpredictable. Russia's full-scale war in Ukraine remains the greatest long-term threat to Europe. At the same time, the European security space continues to be affected by new forms of threats – terrorism, extremism, cyber attacks, crime, disinformation, and economic crises, which pose significant security challenges to countries that transcend national borders. The European security space is exposed to these threats of aggression and hybrid threats, which can rapidly affect the security situation and have negative long-term consequences.
The aim of the conference
The aim of the international conference is to bring together Latvian and international security policy researchers, scientists and experts, representatives of law enforcement agencies, as well as doctoral students and students, in order to promote scientifically based discussion on current global threats, analyse their impact on regional and international security, and seek innovative and practical prevention strategies.
Venue and time
The conference will take place on 19 September 2025 from 10:00 to 18:00 at the RSU main building (16 Dzirciema iela), but it will also be possible to follow the event online via a Zoom link available on the RSU website (see below). Participation is free of charge.
