International Cooperation

On 15 April, the two most senior European Union (EU) officials – President Ursula von der Leyen, who is also the leader of the European People’s Party, and Valdis Dombrovskis who, as Executive Vice-President, is one of the most influential representatives of Latvia in Europe from the party Jaunā Vienotība – visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).

During their visit, the guests visited the RSU Faculty of Pharmacy, where they learned about the students’ work in drug laboratories, and discussed current events with representatives of the RSU Student Union who had a number of questions about topical issues regarding the EU.

During the meeting, RSU Rector Aigars Pētersons said:

‘The officials’ visit to Rīga Stradiņš University serves as an inspiration for all of us, reminding us of the importance of cooperation and a common vision. This is a sign of our commitment to European values and our readiness to actively participate in the work of the EU community.

Together we can achieve even greater success and promote prosperity not only in Latvia, but throughout Europe.’

von der Leyen and Dombrovskis’ visit continued with a visit to the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence and laid down flowers during a ceremony at the Freedom Monument.

The events are part of the European Parliament election campaign.
