Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) emerged victorious in both the women’s and men’s overall standings during the 2025–2026 season of the 36th Latvian University Games, claiming both major titles in a single season for the first time in the university’s history.

Student sport fosters unity and inspiration 

Throughout the academic year, students competed in various sports at the University Games organised by the Latvian University Sports Federation. The programme included competitions in beach volleyball, bench press, swimming, table tennis, chess, mini-football, badminton, powerlifting, volleyball, mini-football, and athletics. 

Female students from 12 Latvian higher education institutions took part in the women's competition, while the men's competition featured participants from 16 universities. 

The goal of the University Games is to strengthen student sports traditions, promote an active lifestyle, and foster unity among young athletes. 

Convincing victory in the women’s competition 

In the women’s competition, the RSU team scored 99 points across nine sports disciplines, finishing two points ahead of the University of Latvia (UL) (97 points). Riga Technical University (RTU) secured third place with 85 points, while Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies came fourth with 83 points. 

Throughout the season, RSU’s female students won competitions in bench press, swimming, badminton and powerlifting, while also achieving high results in other disciplines to secure overall victory. 

RSU dominates the men's competition

The RSU men's team also delivered a consistently strong performance throughout the year, topping the overall standings with 147 points. RTU finished in second place with 128 points, while UL took third place with 116 points. 

RSU students triumphed in beach volleyball, bench press, powerlifting, and mini-football, demonstrating the versatility and excellent athletic performance of RSU athletes.
