How did you draw up your Learning Agreement?

With the help of my coordinators of my home and guest universities I was able to draw up a Learning Agreement containing equivalents for most of the study courses I would have usually taken during this semester and some more. The remote studying at my home university due to the current pandemic enabled me to also take part in the courses that I usually wouldn’t be able to attend from Germany.

How is the study process organized in the receiving university? What is different compared to RSU?

The study process is organized in a very different way in Germany than in Latvia. In Latvia we start off and hopefully finish with a little group of students with whom we attend all of the subjects together. This is very good for a safe group dynamic and environment if you feel comfortable in group. In Lübeck the students are put into a different group for every subject they are taking, forcing them to be more independent which also shows in the way that the German students have to organize many things concerning the study process on their own while in Riga we are spoiled by ready-made individual schedule we are giving at each beginning of the semester.

What were the living conditions?

I had really good living conditions in a shared flat with kind and caring flatmates. I had no troubles whatsoever during my stay.

Did the Erasmus+ grant cover the living expenses?

The grant did not cover my living expenses fully but the living expenses were also higher because I have been travelling and enjoying life as much as it was possible. The grant has been covering my rent, utility and most of my food bills though.

Your advice and recommendations for others choosing this city for their mobility

I am amazed by the city of Lübeck and would recommend an Erasmus+ stay to everyone considering it. It did not only help me in my study process but I was also able to get to know great people all over the world, especially in the first few weeks, before the pandemic got more serious. Under normal circumstances Lübeck must be a great city for going out and having a really good time.

The best memory or experience from Erasmus+ mobility

I will not forget sitting in the “Niederegger Café” with my boyfriend, who came to visit me and enjoying probably the best cake in my entire life. Other good memories are the many times sitting on the stones in the harbour in Travemünde with friends and just and enjoying the sunset with a “Fischbrötchen” or the good walks and runs I had around the Wakenitz right outside our flat.

The most valuable realization or lesson you have learned

Especially in hard times the most important thing is to stay open minded and set your mind in a positive way. Beeing too stressed about exams or bureaucracy should not be a reason to keep you from having a good time out there.
