FAQ

How does the trade union work?

The basic principles of the trade union’s activities are laid down in the statutes of its umbrella organisation – the Trade Union of Health and Social Care Employees of Latvia.

What are the advantages of becoming a member?

  1. Representation of members’ economic, social, and professional rights in negotiations with the employer (e.g. if a collective agreement or its amendments are being drafted in an institution, the trade union represents employees' interests in these negotiations);
  2. Representation of employees' interests at the industry level, when public authorities and other social partners are involved in negotiations;
  3. Trade union members can receive moral and material support from the union (for example, free advocacy and legal assistance in labour law, occupational safety, and other socio-economic issues in relations with employers and other public institutions). Members can also apply for financial assistance in specific situations.
