Objective

The aim of the study module is to develop the knowledge, skills and competences of students in the care of acute patients, ensuring the ability to rapidly and efficiently assess a patient’s health status, to make clinical decisions and to perform appropriate therapeutic interventions in patients with acute or newly presenting complaints. Module prepares students for professional action in potentially high-risk clinical situations clinical practice, where it is necessary to rapidly and accurately assess the patient’s health status and take decisions on further action. This module will provide students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in the context of acute patient care, highlighting critical thinking, quick action and team collaboration, as well as a holistic and human-centered approach.

Prerequisites

Aetiology of diseases, pathogenesis, clinical scene and treatment and care interventions, epidemiology, preventive measures, functional and laboratory diagnostics.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of the study course acquisition, students shall:
1. Is able to perform primary and secondary assessments of the patient’s condition in acute situations.
2. Can quickly identify life-threatening conditions and identify the necessary emergency actions.
3. It is competent to plan and implement therapeutic interventions in accordance with evidence-based guidelines.
4. Be able to make decisions on diagnostic and treatment priorities based on the patient’s objective condition.
5. Understands the principles and importance of multidisciplinary team action, knows how to ensure effective communication and patient-centred care.
6. The use of clinical guidelines and action algorithms in acute patient care is competent.

Skills

1.As a result of the study course acquisition, students shall:
1. Knows how to assess patient’s health status and evaluate it in dynamics.
2. Can plan and implement therapeutic interventions.
3. Capable of evaluating, analysing, drawing up a conclusion and deciding on a given diagnosis.
4. Able to diagnose acute diseases.
5. Knows how to decide to perform therapeutic interventions in patients with chronic diseases.
6. Develop and use evidence-based action algorithms, guidelines for clinical practice of nurses.
7. Plans and directs person-centred healthcare, promoting patient, their family engagement and responsibility for their health.
8. Organise and manage cooperation within a multidisciplinary team.

Competence

1.Ability to make an autonomous decision on the conduct of therapeutic interventions by developing and applying evidence-based action algorithms. Ability to interpret and provide information comprehensible to the individual, group and community about the results of the examinations conducted and the necessary follow-up actions. Ability to make clinical decisions within the framework of evidence-based Nursing practice using research methodology and terminology. Ability to prescribe and prescribe medicinal products and medical devices in the specific clinical situation in compliance with the requirements of regulatory enactments. Ability to assess treatment indications, contraindications and side effects. Ability to evaluate, select and apply technological solutions in patient care. Ability to assess and identify the benefits and risks of the use of medical technologies and devices, their impact on the human body. Ability to monitor and manage the treatment and care of various wounds using appropriate therapeutic interventions and medical technologies. Ability to perform invasive and non-invasive fluid and nutrition admissions support using medical technologies. Ability to perform urogenital system care and stoma replacement for the most common urogenital abnormalities. Ability to monitor and manage the treatment and care of the most common endocrine disease cases. Ability to assess the effectiveness of care activities. Ability to develop professional activities, use information and communication technologies in a convincing and secure manner in the performance of the terms of reference.
