Objective

To develop in-depth understanding of professional communication of police officers and to be able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

Tasks:
1. Broaden the students’ knowledge of basic principles of communication in the professional field of a police officer.
2. Improve theoretical and develop practical skills in communication with various representatives of the society.
3. Apply skills and techniques in the psychology of interrogation.

Prerequisites

Prior knowledge is not necessary.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Ability to demonstrate comprehensive and specialised knowledge consistent with police work and understanding of the key principles of the professional communication of a police officer: culture of behaviour in police work, verbal and non-verbal communication, nature of conflicts and the resolution thereof, specifics of interacting with different members of society, psychological aspects of interrogation.

Skills

1.Able to apply general and special terminology, to carry out practical tasks related to the communication of a police officer with colleagues, communication specifics with different social groups, psychological aspects of interrogation within one’s area of competence; able to prepare a written report on a topic related to the specifics of professional communication of a police officer, psychological aspects of interrogation, to analyse data and to provide constructive solutions to problems, and to present it.

Competence

1.Able to describe and analyse practical problems in police work related to the aspects of professional communication of a police officer; to select and use information and to apply it effectively in communication with different representatives of the society.
