Objective

To acquire knowledge about the prevalence of mental disorders, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and course (according to the ICD-10), basic medical and psychological principles of treatment, prevention of mental illness and rehabilitation principles; to obtain knowledge about the organization of the psychiatric care services, its ethical and legal principles, the division of competencies among different specialists and the planning and organization of care for mentally ill patients. Gain skills to communicate with patients in a friendly, supportive and educational way. To be able to assess the mental state of patients, to understand its dynamics during therapy.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knows the prevalence of mental disorders, etiological factors. Able to formulate psychiatric symptoms and syndromes and understand the concepts of major mental disorders. Gains knowledge of the most important methods of treatment and recognizes the most commonly used psychopharmacological agents. Understands the role of multidisciplinary team and the role of a psychologist in recognizing and treating mental disorders.

Skills

1.Able to recognize, assess and describe basic psychiatric symptoms, evaluate and plan the type of patient care, ensuring the correct selection of the patient for art therapy classes.
Can create an emphatic interviewing style for work with patients with mental disorders, be aware of the importance of therapeutic relationships in psychiatry.

Competence

1.Is able to assess the dynamics of the client's mental disorder during the consulting the patient and is able to explain it to the patient.
Able to defend their views to other members of the patient care team. Is able to promote a healthy lifestyle in society within the competence of his / her speciality.
