Resuscitation and Intensive Care in Pediatrics I (RNM_004)
About Study Course
Objective
Knowledge and skills obtained in propaedeutics, general pathology, pathological physiology, surgery, therapy, pharmacology.
To ensure possibility to master knowledge on differences in intense therapy principles, methods and manipulations in pediatrics in order to maintain (ensure) the vital life functions of crucially sick infant and child in the prehospital and hospital Admission Department’s phase till the moment of a specialist’s arrival.
Learning outcomes
1.Student will know how
1. To recognize the symptoms and syndromes dangerous for life in disease and trauma cases in pediatrics.
2. To explain the differences of intense therapy in pediatrics.
3. To interpret clinically – biochemical hypoxia indices, their correction methods.
4. To describe the differences of artificial pulmonary ventilation in pediatrics.
5. To formulate the indications of hemodyalisis, hemofiltration, hemosorbtion and hyperbaric oxygenation in pediatrics.
6. To characterize the principles of antibacterial therapy.
1.In the first year (4 weeks, not less than ½ of the required number of manipulations) in the Reanimation and Intense Therapy Department under a constant supervision:
1. To identify the symptoms and syndromes dangerous for life in disease and trauma cases.
2. To formulate indications and contraindications for placing the patient in the Intense Therapy Department.
3. To elaborate the care taking plan in the intense therapy in pediatrics.
4. To analyse and correct clinically – biochemical hypoxia indices.
5. To examine and monitor intense therapy patients in pediatrics, applying noninvasive and within the bounds of possibilities also the invasive methods.
6. To cathetetrize the central and peripheral veins.
7. To apply perfusors.
8. To apply noninvasive and invasive artificial pulmonary ventilation methods in pediatrics using the ventilation bag and artificial pulmonary ventilation devices, including the portable ones.
9. To interpret the data of laboratory examinations.
10. To apply O2 inhalation methods.
11. To provide care for a child’s airways, including for patients with tracheostomy.
12. To interpret the disturbances of water – electrolytes and acids – alcali balance and make corrections.
13. To diagnosticate the insufficiency and septic conditions of multiple organs.
14. To apply the resuscitation activities according to ACLS algorithms.
15. To make treatment and examination plan in pediatrics for IT patients with neurological and neurosurgical pathology, abdominal pathology and pulmonary pathology, including for operated patients, patients with endocrine pathology, cardiac pathology.
In the second year (4 weeks, ½ of the required number of manipulations)– student will make the abovementioned duties in the Reanimation and Intense Therapy Department under a partial supervision.
Examination in the end of the second year.
Field Level Title
Reanimatology 4 Catheterization of the central vein
Reanimatology 8 Catheterization of a periferal vein
Reanimatology 2 Intraosseous approach (including on a mannequin)
Reanimatology 4 Advanced cardiopulmonary reanimation of infants and children (mannequins, patients)
Reanimatology 4 Stomach lavage
1.Student will be able to make and realize independently the examination and treatment plan in the conditions crucial for children’s health and life and maintain the child’s vital functions till the moment of specialist’s arrival in emergency situations in prehospital and hospital phase.
