Rīga Stradiņš University invites applications for a full-time Tenured Professor of Life Sciences at one of the leading and most modern universities in the Baltic States, specializing in health care and social sciences.

The tenured professor will conduct fundamental and/or applied research in the life sciences, develop an independent, externally funded research agenda in this field, attract talented researchers, build multidisciplinary team(s), engage in teaching and educational activities, and contribute to strengthening the international visibility of Rīga Stradiņš University.

Scientific Discipline Group - Life Sciences

  • A full-time salary starting from EUR 5000 (gross) per month, plus variable part of the remuneration based on performance;
  • Initial research grants and adequate resources to support the launch of scientific activities and the achievement of defined goals;
  • The tenured professor is initially appointed for a six-year term, with a performance review after three years. Upon a positive evaluation, the employment contract will be extended. Prior to the end of the six-year term, a subsequent performance review will be conducted. If this review is positive, the Rector of RSU will offer an indefinite employment contract, with regular performance reviews occurring at least every six years thereafter.

Requirements

  • Doctoral (PhD) degree;
  • A Hirsch index of at least 10, with publications indexed in Scopus/Web of Science over the past three years, relevant to the discipline or interdisciplinary fields;
  • A minimum of three years of academic experience as a professor or associate professor;
  • Experience in teaching at high level;
  • Experience in research project management at international and/or national level;
  • Experience in the preparation, management and partnership in projects funded by EU research and innovation programmes (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe) or equivalent programmes rated above the quality threshold;
  • Experience in managing a research team;
  • An impeccable academic and professional reputation and recognition in the relevant research field;
  • Experience in communicating with the public;
  • Excellent command of the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the proposed research programme in the specific discipline group and field;
  • Attract the funding necessary for the implementation of the research programme, including the funding necessary for the development of the research team;
  • Manage research projects and participate in the implementation of other research projects of RSU and cooperation partners;
  • Organise and participate in educational and advisory activities;
  • Participate in international consortia and projects;
  • Supervise doctoral and post-doctoral theses;
  • Prepare scientific publications and communicate research results;
  • Develop research infrastructure and research methods;
  • Adhere to the requirements of research ethics and data security principles and applicable regulations.
