Scientific assistant (Systems biology)

The Computational Systems Biology team (biosystems.lv) lead by tenured professor Dr.sc.ing. Egils Stalidzans at RSU Bioinformatics group invites talented and motivated scientific assistant (with master degree or master degree student) to work in scientific projects at Rīga Stradiņš University. The group is implementing systems biology approaches in mathematical modeling of biomolecular processes. The topics of the projects are mainly related to medical issues and precision medicine.

Work Location: Riga, Latvia (partly remote option possible)

Working Time: 12-40 hours per week

Employment contract: Fixed-term employment contract of up to 2 years

What we expect

• The candidate must have basic knowledge and skills in in programing of Python, R and/or Matlab with an interest in biomedical sciences
• Willingness to work in science and learn new skills in an interdisciplinary team
• Knowledge of written and spoken English

We will appreciate

• Artificial intelligence, machine learning skills are desirable
• Data analysis and mathematical modeling skills with programs similar to COPASI, COBRA, CNApy
• Basic knowledge in molecular biology and "omics" technologies is desirable

Everyday work

• Implementation of the systems biology approach by creating mathematical models based on the available information, the operation of which is compared with the experimental results
• Personalization of therapies through omics data integration into models
• Mathematical modeling and optimization of cellular processes
• Participation in scientific discussions of projects
• Preparation of scientific publications
