RSU researcher Valdis Krebs shares his return migration story
On 18 September, the R(E)-TIES project researcher Valdis Krebs took part in an online forum on return migration organised by the Riga Planning Region and the Riga City Council. During the event, the latest survey of returnees’ experiences was presented.
Researcher and network analysis software developer Valdis Krebs shared his personal story of returning to Latvia from the United States, where he had lived with his family for many years. He explained the reasons behind his decision to move back and spoke with appreciation about the opportunity to work as a researcher at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). More about Krebs’ experience can be found in the recording of the event below (starting at minute 41).
The annual return migration forum has become a tradition, highlighting the latest trends and challenges as well as sharing returnee stories. This year marked its seventh edition and featured several discussion panels dedicated to different themes: return migration statistics and trends in the region and across the country, the experiences of returnees and entrepreneurs, and the role of state and municipal support in the return migration process.
