On 17 October, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Liepāja Branch celebrated its 80th anniversary in a festive and heartfelt atmosphere at the Liepāja Latvian Society House. The event brought together lecturers, students, graduates, representatives of the Liepāja municipal government, and cooperation partners.

The ceremony was opened by Gunārs Ansiņš, Chairman of Liepāja City Council, who expressed his gratitude for the contribution made by RSU Liepāja Branch to healthcare and education in Kurzeme region, and spoke highly of the cooperation between RSU and Liepāja municipal government.

In his address, RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons emphasised that the distinguished anniversary of the RSU Liepāja Branch is a story of professional growth, human kindness, and service to healthcare in Latvia.

‘Studying in Liepāja gives young people the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education closer to home, while maintaining the academic standard and international level of RSU.

The Branch holds great importance for the development of the Kurzeme region, as it provides opportunities to study and work within the local community, family, and city,’ said the RSU Rector.

Dita Role, Principal of the RSU Liepāja Branch, expressed her gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the Branch’s growth and development over the years, particularly highlighting the unity of the community and the strength of collaboration.

Toms Pulmanis, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, also addressed the audience, congratulating the staff of the Liepāja Branch on this important anniversary and wishing them continued success in strengthening the tradition of medical education in Kurzeme.

The official part of the event was followed by a concert, greetings from guests, and a ball.

The celebration was marked by a warm atmosphere that brought together representatives of different generations, reminding everyone of the rich history of the Liepāja Branch, which traces its origins to the former Liepāja Medical School.
