Riga Stradins University invites applications for a Researcher position to join the research group of a tenured professor at the Institute of Oncology and Molecular Genetics.

About the Group

We are looking for a highly motivated Researcher with a strong scientific interest in cancer genetics to join our research group focused on advancing knowledge of genetic susceptibility to breast cancer. The position offers an opportunity to work at the forefront of precision oncology in a multidisciplinary environment, bridging genetics, data science, and patient-centred care, and to engage with international collaborative networks that drive innovation in cancer research. The successful candidate will apply rigorous analytical approaches to translate high-quality genetic and clinical data into clinically actionable outputs and evidence that can inform patient management and guide precision medicine strategies. 

Work location: Riga Stradins University, 21 Konsula iela, Riga, LV-1007, Latvia
Working hours: Part-time (up to 20 hours per week) 
Type of employment: Temporary, up to one year, with the possibility of extension based on a positive evaluation.

Required qualifications
•    Master’s or doctoral degree in cancer genetics, medical oncology, molecular biology, human genetics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, or a closely related field
•    Excellent command of written and spoken English
•    Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated ability to summarize and report scientific findings in written and oral formats
•    Intellectual openness and curiosity, combined with the ability to think broadly and envision future directions for the field
•    Solid work ethic
•    Analytical skills and ability to generate, evaluate, synthesize new and complex research ideas
•    Publication record in relevant research area appropriate to career stage

 

Preferred qualifications
•    Proven prior experience in hereditary (breast) cancer research, including variant classification, modifier analyses, risk refinement
•    Familiarity with clinical registries, population-based cohorts, or biobank-scale datasets
•    Proficiency with statistical methods, software, and data analysis tools

 

Your responsibilities
•    Carry out genetic and clinical data curation, standardization, and analysis
•    Interpret and classify germline sequence variants in breast/ovarian cancer predisposing genes using established and emerging frameworks
•    Participate in scientific discussion and study design
•    Collaborate with clinicians, biologists, and other researchers in a multidisciplinary setting
•    Participate in development and maintenance of local research infrastructure
•    Contribute to the development of educational models and resources tailored to the needs of specific target audiences
•    Prepare scholarly outputs, including manuscripts, reports, and presentations, for communication of findings
