In order to ensure access to study materials for Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) healthcare direction students, the Department of Morphology has launched a large-scale project – the digitalisation of microscope slides. From spring onwards, RSU students will have access to a comprehensive digital archive of samples for histology and embryology study courses. The project is being implemented with the support of the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation.
A student indoor rowing competition will be held on 3 March for the first time in Latvia. Both teams and individual events will be organised, men and women take part in separate events. REGISTRATION FORM (To be completed by 25 February)
On 23 January Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Senate approved the new management team and structural changes proposed by RSU rector Professor Aigars Pētersons.
According to the approved organisational changes which will come into effect on 1 February, there will be four areas of responsibility, each of which will be led by the vice-rector of each respective field:
An exhibition titled "What would our first two rectors have discussed?" will be displayed in the RSU Museum display cabinet next to the Great Hall (Aula) from 29th January to 18th April. The exhibition will be about the first two RSU (at that time - Rīga Medicine Institute) rectors, Prof. Ernests Burtnieks and Prof. Vasilijs Kalbergs. The exhibition is free of charge and can be viewed from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every weekday.
The residency programme Gynaecologist, childbirth specialist implemented by the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Faculty of Continuing Education has received international accreditation.
The name of the winner of the annual Pauls Stradiņš Award was announced on 17 January at Pauls Stradiņš Museum for the History of Medicine. This year the Senate of the Latvian Academy of Sciences has decided to present the award to Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) professor, ophthalmologist Guna Laganovska for long-standing and significant contribution to the development of ophthalmology on a national and global scale through the implementation of innovative treatment methods and the promotion of eye disease prevention.
On 12 January 2018 the academic staff of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Faculty of Dentistry and the Institute of Stomatology as well as RSU dentistry students were given a unique opportunity to meet the co-author of the e-book Dental Mammoth – Foundations of Clinical Dentistry Prof. Jukka H. Meurman and editor-in-chief Heikki Autti from Finland. During the meeting the students and academics were taught how to effectively and properly use the contents of the e-book for clinical and theoretical classes and for practical work.
