Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in anaesthesiology, reanimatology according to the requirements of the thoracic surgery speciality regulations to prepare doctors for certification in the speciality of thoracic surgery according to regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Able to demonstrate in-depth or extended knowledge and understanding of the following topics: - basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation algorithm; - advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation algorithms currently accepted in the country; - airway patency techniques: manual, airway, tracheal intubation, split bronchial intubation, laryngeal mask, intubating laryngeal mask, Combitube tube, extreme cricothyrotomy; - artificial lung ventilation: mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-nose, with Ambu manual ventilator, manually, using an anaesthetic face mask; - features of artificial lung ventilation in thoracic surgery: single lung ventilation, high-frequency jet ventilation; - respiratory and haemodynamic monitoring of anaesthetized and comatose patients, and other types of monitoring; - principles and stages of general and regional anaesthesia in thoracic surgery; - features of artificial lung ventilation in thoracic surgery: single lung ventilation, high-frequency jet ventilation; - acute postoperative pain management.

Skills

1.Able to independently apply theory, methods and problem-solving skills to perform: - tracheal intubation - artificial ventilation of the lungs - patient monitoring.

Competence

1.Able to independently formulate and critically analyse complicated scientific and professional problems, to substantiate decisions, and to conduct additional analysis, if needed. Able to integrate knowledge from different fields, make a contribution to the creation of new knowledge, development of research or professional activity methods, to demonstrate understanding and ethical responsibility for the scientific result or potential impact of professional activity.
