Objective

To ensure basic knowledge on psychodynamic theories and psychodynamic awareness of psychiatric diseases, basic knowledge and skills in crisis, supportive psychotherapy.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.• on the examination of a psychiatric patient and awareness of psychodynamic aspect, as well as basic knowledge in psychodynamic psychotherapy;
• on types of crises and human reactions in crisis situations, as well as on types of assistance;
• on legal issues that are associated with crises and cases of violence;
• supportive psychotherapy.

Skills

1.• In developing and maintaining therapeutic relations and work alliance;
• In examination and understanding of a psychiatric patient in psychodynamic aspect;
• In evaluation of crisis situations, patient condition and their safety; consultation skills in work with customers in the event of a crisis (formulation and asking of focused questions, reflection of emotions, determining of main problems, formulation and rephrasing of emotional reactions, association of emotions with earlier experience, provision of non-verbal support, development of short-term and long-term solutions, stress management);
• In implementation of support psychotherapy (determining the objectives of therapy; communication, providing feedback at appropriate moments; recognising affect; confronting with behaviours that are hazardous for the patient; recognition, support and facilitation of patient’s capacities; offering of strategies for problem solving; educating; taking additional consultations, if required).

Competence

1.• To diagnose and differentiate psychopathological symptoms and syndromes in psychodynamic terms; to formulate psychotherapeutic diagnoses;
• Evaluation of a crisis situation and patient condition, provision of crisis assistance, as well as evaluation of the limits of personal capacities and ability to cooperate with other institutions and specialists;
• To recognise and use personal resources as personal creativity and specialist’s potential;
• To maintain the limits of physician-patient relationship in an ethical manner.
