About Study Course
Objective
The study course provides students with the opportunity to construct their knowledge of the key issues of the field of contemporary public health and epidemiology.
Learning outcomes
1.• to define the concept of health and describe the categories of factors affecting health; to define the challenges of public health as a science and practice;
• to classify the levels of disease prevention and to describe the basic functions of health promotion; to describe the historical and contemporary understanding of the concept of epidemiology, to classify factors affecting health and risk factors, to describe types of health information;
• to construct the main designs of epidemiological studies.
1.• to differentiate between causal and non-causal factor associations and health events;
• to calculate health event and condition indicators;
• to calculate demographic indicators;
• to assess the validity of epidemiological studies according to the study design.
1.• to justify the need for empirical data in public health practice and data use in defining and solving public health problems;
• to explain primary public health issues using quantitative empirical data;
• to select health and demographic indicators for studies of health problems;
• to critically evaluate health information according to its source and in the light of evidence;
• to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment, disease prevention and health promotion.
